ICT integration in teaching and learning

Over the past few decades, the rapid growth of ICT has changed the way people think. This is due to the capability of ICT in providing a dynamic and proactive teaching and learning environment. In this digital era, teachers are required to integrate their teaching and learning process replacing the traditional methods with tools and facilities.

The usage of technology in educational platforms has greatly impacted the delivery of lessons to the students as well as how students learns. With just one click learners are directed to variety of information highlighting ICT as a source of information. Teachers can also keep track of student’s progress using ICT. With the help of ICT, teachers are merely a facilitator rather than educator because ICT directs learners to learn in their own pace without hampering the intervention of teachers.

The workload of a teacher is decreased indirectly as ICT integration encourages cooperative and collaborative learning amongst students. From information dissemination to students grading, all works can be done using ICT. For example if students are unaware of how to about their work, they can simply ask their doubts to the teacher using social media. Students can also be graded using educational platforms such as moodle, google classroom and many more.

ICT integration mostly deals with learner centered platforms where students can learn on their own and with the own capacity. The learners use computer based services to search and retrieve relevant information where they have to critically evaluate information from different fields be it written, statistical or graphic. They can also use ICT to write, present, communicate and share their information which strengthens leaner centered learning. ICT acts as a source of knowledge and a means of interaction in this 21st century.
